Health Reimbursement Account

Administered by Cigna

A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) is a company-funded and -controlled account that can be used to pay for qualifying medical and prescription expenses related to your medical plan deductible.

You do not contribute to an HRA. This is a company-controlled account set up for you by FirstCall. You must be enrolled in the Cigna EPO medical through FirstCall to qualify.

FirstCall contributes $1,000 per Employee (or $2,000 per Family) to your HRA on a annual basis.

How does it work?

A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) is an employer-funded benefit that helps employees pay for certain healthcare costs. The employer sets aside a specific amount of money that you can use to get reimbursed for eligible expenses, specifically your health plan deductible and in-network services. You don’t contribute any money to the HRA, and reimbursements are tax-free.

About Health Reimbursement Accounts

Basics

A health reimbursement account (HRA) is an account to help you pay for eligible medical expenses. These accounts are funded by and controlled by your employer.

  • Employer-Funded: The employer contributes to the account, allowing employees to reimburse themselves for qualified medical, dental, or vision expenses.
  • Tax Benefits: Funds in an HRA are tax-free and not reported as income, providing financial advantages for employees.
  • Reimbursement for Expenses: Employees can request reimbursement for actual medical expenses incurred, up to the amount set by the employer.
  • Not a Bank Account: An HRA is not a traditional bank account; it does not earn interest or allow for investment.

How It Works

Company-Funded: Employees are not able to contribute to an HRA account.

Company-Controlled: Most employers set up HRAs for their employees to pay for expenses not typically paid for by health plans — medical and pharmacy expenses that may be paid out-of-pocket before meeting a deductible, as well as coinsurance after meeting a deductible.

Tax Advantages: Your reimbursement for eligible medical expenses is generally not considered taxable income. You usually receive the full amount, and don’t have to pay federal or state income taxes on the money.

Use It or Lose It: This is a company account and any unused monies when you terminate the plan will remain with FirstCall.

Eligible HRA Expenses

Deductibles & In-Network Services

The HRA can only be used on in-network services covered by a FirstCall medical plan. These dollars count towards the overall deducitble you pay out-of-pocket for medical or prescription expenses.

Not for Copays

Your HRA does not cover copayments for services. A copay is a set dollar amount you pay for in-network doctors’ office visits, emergency room services and prescription drugs.
